
On this day in 1989, twenty armed guerrilla fighters stormed the Sheraton Hotel in San Salvador, El Salvador, taking more than 100 people hostage, including Green Berets.
From 1979-1992, El Salvador was undergoing a brutal civil war between the government and the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN). The siege of the hotel was one example of the violence that occurred during this time.
