
On the days leading up to January 4, 1991, escalating violence in Somalia meant that U.S. Embassy Mogadishu needed to be evacuated. The evacuation took place on this day 25 years ago.
The evacuation was more challenging than expected due to the fact that the U.S. military was more focused on Operation Desert Storm at this time.
