
In the months leading up to January 1, 2000, governments and businesses were frantically recoding their computers. The fear was that anything that used a computer, from traffic lights to missile silos, weren’t properly coded to handle years that began with 20-. Many people thought as the “year” inside the machine ticked from 99 to 00 that everything would malfunction and go haywire.
The first country to ring in Y2K was Fiji. Fortunately (spoiler warning), Y2K was not the huge problem that everyone feared!
