
On this day in 1991, the Soviet Union dissolved. The new Russian Federation began making the transition to a market economy.
However, this transition was marked by hyperinflation and worsened by Russia’s numerous external debts. Despite this, many Russians saw financial success and enjoyed the new U.S. and other luxury brands that were allowed in the country openly for the first time.
