
On this day in 1988, Pan Am flight 103 from London Heathrow to JFK was bombed over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 270 people, 11 of which were on the ground.
After a three-year investigation, two Libyans were issued murder warrants. Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi eventually handed them over for prosecution after protracted negotiations and sanctions.
